The Fieldsports team's Christmas wish lists

The Fieldsports team's Christmas wish lists

With Christmas fast approaching, the Fieldsports team draw up their fantasy wish lists.

  • Idleback Shotgun Chair with saddle seat: A good seat is key when pigeon shooting and many other options just don't cut it for a long day in the hide. Plus these come with a two-year guarantee.

  • Sightmark laser bore sight from Longthorne: These fit into your chamber and act as a training aid or help to check your barrel alignment (for which you will need two). A range of rifle and shotgun calibres are catered for. I'm intrigued, and keen to try one.

  • I've heard a lot of good things about Meopta optics - the Meostar range in particular. This variable magnification scope offers impressive light transmission at a mid-range price.

  • Sauer 101 Classic XT: A rifle with a very good reputation for reliability and an excellent trigger. I'd go for the soft-touch polymer build option for its durability.

  • Swazi Overpants: I have the Swazi Kagoule Anorak and it has really impressed me. It's quiet, lightweight, waterproof and durable. The breathable overpants would be ideal for wet weather when I want to stay dry from rain and perspiration!

  • Costa sunglasses are used by fishermen all over the world, and increasingly in the shooting field too. Not only do they provide protection against wayward flies but they are fantastic at cutting out obscuring glare better than any other brand I have tried!

  • Perilla’s Alpaca shooting socks are luxurious, affordable, robust, non-itchy, warm, easy to wash and come in a fantastic array of colours. Alpaca wool naturally repels bacteria and odour so they can be worn for a week without the need to wash them!

  • In my opinion, a tie is still a must for a day’s shooting and this flying woodcock tie from Purdey is a nod to both one of the UK’s oldest gunmakers and one of our most elusive and beautiful gamebirds.

  • Let’s face it, no country person’s wardrobe is complete without tweed. The Ragley range from Seeland is dirt-repellant, windproof and waterproof and caters for men, ladies and kids. This would be a great choice for someone getting into country sports.

  • The ultimate waders! The Geo-5 range has a number of brilliant features including front and back leg seams, fleece-lined hand warmer pockets, adjustable braces and reinforced neoprene soles to improve durability. Buy any pair of Geo-5 stocking foot waders and get a pair of Stream-Trek wading boots at half price!

  • 'Salmon on their redds' by Clare Brownlow is painted using pheasant tail feathers and was sold at auction for the Atlantic Salmon Trust in May. Clare has released this print, which is limited to 100 numbered prints, with 10% going to the AST. It is available on her website.

  • Holland Cooper’s range of monogrammed scarves are perfect for wrapping up warm this winter – this charcoal grey scarf with orange initials is my personal favourite!

  • This is one of those items that I suspect you would wear all the time. I really like the style of this vest and the tweed is simple but extremely smart. The Blair range also includes a shooting coat, waistcoat, breeks, cap, skirt, blazer and long coat.

  • You can’t beat a good jumper, especially one with suede elbow and shoulder patches! It’s clear to see that Missy’s experience within country sports has allowed her to design a range that is affordable yet practical when out in the field.

  • The Pangolin Collection from Patrick Mavros is inspired by one of the world’s most trafficked animals, the pangolin. 10% of all sales from the collection, including this beautiful bracelet, are donated to the Tikki Hywood Trust who are dedicated to the rehabilitation of lesser-known endangered mammal species in Zimbabwe.
