This week's dream buy...

Scottish Sporting Gazette

As nights draw ever shorter and more bitter, the Scottish salmon season has breathed her last breathe of 2014. And what a dismal year it has been. Even so, like a smoker starved of nicotine, soon fishing cold turkey will set in and many will be yearning to be back on the water.?

But where? Back to your favourite spot - a home from home? Or somewhere new - the mighty Spey perhaps???

Well? Luck just so has it that a late June week for five Rods on Scotland's most prestigious river is up for grabs. The Laggan and Carron stretch of the hallowed Spey, the home of fishing, comprises some five miles of water that is suitable for both the novice and experienced angler alike.

From fast flowing waters to deeper holding pools that characterise the middle reaches of the Spey, there is plenty of beautiful fly water to entertain anglers through the week.

Accommodation in the capacious Laggan House is another major perk with this purchase. Situated a stone's throw from the bank, this baronial mansion provides unabashed comfort for up to 15 guests - the perfect place to retire to after a day on the water, with (hopefully) a story or three about tight lines.?

We may be about to enter the chokehold of winter, but this offer has already got me thinking about the summer.
